清代福州的“蜑民”与地方社会

摘要: “蜑民”作为江海水域生态体系和东南地域社会的组成部分,对于理解东南社会历史变迁的重要意义,正在得到学界的关注。在清代福建沿海的地域社会和文化中,“蜑”并不只是一个历史延续的“族群”事实或者某种“底边社会”的结构。无论是作为一种生计模式,或者作为一种社会行动的“场域”,或者作为一种制度—身份的语言,或者是作为一种文化分类的标签,“蜑民”既身处各种“边界”的定义之中,又不断打破种种“边界”,而这一状况所反映的正是明清以来地方社会的结构及其流动性特征。本文以一通嘉庆年间的碑铭为中心,并把它置于文献与田野的多重脉络之中来解读,从制度、习俗、身份、族群性等断面,讨论“蜑民”与清代福州地方社会变迁的多层次关系,并以此探讨从田野中解读文献来进行历史“厚描”的可能性及其在区域社会的历史人类学研究中的方法论意义。
The “Dan” (Boat People) and the Local Society of Fuzhou in the Qing Dynasty

Abstract: As an integral part of the river-sea ecosystems and the local societies, the " Dan” (boat people) is drawing much more scholarly attention for understanding the critical significance of the historical changes in southeast China. In the local society and regional culture along the coast of Fujian in the Qing Dynasty, the " Dan” was not only a historical " ethnic group” or a " base and marginalized society”, but also a lifestyle, a field of social actions, a discourse of status, or a label of cultural classifying. Moreover, by breaking of variously defined " boundaries”, the roles played by the " Dan” deeply reflected the structure of the local society and its fluidity since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. By situating an inscription of the Jiaqing period in the context of institution, custom, identity, and ethnicity, this article will discuss the interactions of the " Dan” and the local society of Fuzhou, and try to approach a certain historical " thick description” through the interpretation of local document in the field.
