Zhu Guangqian and Chinese Drama Criticism in 20th Century
Abstract: The relationship between Zhu Guangqian and Chinese drama criticism in the 20th century is often ignored in the previous study of Chinese modern drama history and drama theory.People only regard him as an aesthetician and translator, but do not fully realize his important contribution in the field of drama criticism theory.Zhu Guangqians drama criticism is divided into two periods in 1949.The previous period began with the Tragic Psychology, which introduced and imported Western drama theory. In the 1930s and 1940s,he criticized and guided some modern drama plays and performances. After 1949,apart from the controversy caused by his “Diderots on the Contradictions of Actors”,he mainly carried out theoretical thinking including drama criticism through some translations and relevant discussions in aesthetic works.
