Disorder of Social Compensation: A Moral Paradox in Healthcare Transformation
Abstract: The power of medical treatment is limited, while the meaning of life is infinite.Calibrating the balance between limitation and infinity is the core embodiment of the relationship between medicine and society. In the process of Chinas modernization, with the intersection and collision between Chinese and Western medicine, the medical care that was originally integrated into the society has moved into its exclusive purview. The previous social mechanism of coping with the infinity of life and compensating for medical treatment has also failed accordingly. This makes the infinite responsibility of life gradually imposed upon medical care.Although still observable in medical practice, social participation can hardly play a compensatory role. Not only is societys moral evaluation of doctors ambiguous, but doctors themselves also often fall into contradictions. Therefore, only by clarifying the concept of life behind modern and traditional,Chinese and Western medical care, and clearing up the moral roots behind medical care and society based on consistent values, can we step out of the moral paradox and protect the honor of doctors and the warmth of medical ethics.
