On Hermeneutics of AI Art
Abstract: As a new art form, AI art which created by artificial intelligence in accordance with the algorithmic procedure has three typical hermeneutic characteristics: AI’s algorithmic procedure is similar to artist’s consciousness and creative intention, AI art’s quality is similar to human work’s the creativity and creative essence, AI art’s language and meaning is similar to the human language and meaning. Generally speaking, the “author” consciousness of AI art is a two-way information feedback mechanism that mimics the human brain consciousness. It makes AI’s “machine mind” converge to the “literary mind”, and sprouts the “Art intention” corresponding to the “literary mind”. The “work” creativity of AI art is the representation realized by the intelligent program based on the comparison and modification with the original materials and the target intention, it creates unexpected art forms and contents based on the incompleteness of the presuming information and the end goal. The language and meaning in the AI art’s interpretation lie in the triple general logic of the algorithm system, i.e., the “explanation” of the algorithm instruction, the “interpretation” of the language program, and the “interpretation” of all AI art’s internal elements. The meaning of AI art eventually stems from an objective-subjective interpretation and roots in the circular interpretation of “instruction explanation-program interpretation-meaning giving” of language codes.
