The “Hermeneutics of Action” and Its New Paradigm of Practical Philosophy——On the Integration of Ricoeur's Hermeneutics with the Humanities and Social Sciences
Abstract: Paul Ricoeur's “hermeneutics of action” represents a significant theoretical achievement in the development of contemporary hermeneutics. It not only signifies the continuous expansion of the concept of the “text”,but also embodies the profound extension of hermeneutics into the realm of the humanities and social sciences.By treating meaningful action as a “text”,this approach seamlessly integrates textual interpretation with the interpretation of action. It emerges as a disciplinary horizon that bridges the dichotomy between explanation and understanding, ultimately unifying methodology, ontology, and practical philosophy. This horizon has effectively fostered dialogue between the Continental speculative tradition and the Anglo-American analytic tradition, enabling these two intellectual resources to mutually elucidate.Furthermore, through critical reflection on action and its hermeneutic mechanisms,it has promoted the interdisciplinary convergence of hermeneutics with other academic disciplines and schools of thought, thereby inaugurating a new paradigm of practical philosophy.
