Abstract: Historical sociology returned to the academic trend after Second World War while such remarkable figures as Charles Tilly and Skocpol are concerned about the methodological differentiation within historical sociology, yet, not searching for its sources and causes. In fact, once historical sociology rose in 19th century, its methodology is separated into three types and traditions. The first is to explain the present problems and find the rule of social change; the second is to deeply narrate the speciality of historical process; the third is to interpret the complexity of historical change with the sociological concepts and methods. Such differentiation has a decisive effect on the development of historical sociology in 20th century. There are two attitudes toward the differentiation, that is, integration and suspension, which cause the methodology of historical sociology in dispute.
