A New Research of the Late History of the Second Türk Khanate

There are great differences in the description of the political situation at the end of the Second Türk Khanate in Biographies of Turks in Jiutangshu（《旧唐书》）and Xintangshu（《新唐书》）. Theses differences are mainly due to their different historical origins. The original historical source of the Biographies of Turks in Jiutangshu should come from the inscription on the Tombstone of Kang Ayi Qu Dagan written by Yan Zhenqing, which is inaccurate. The section related to the alternations of Khan in Xintangshu come from the Tangli（《唐历》）, which have high historical value. The other parts are mostly the editors’re deletion and arrangement of the existing historical materials, which need to be used carefully. At the last moment, several Khans have been fleeing in Mobei（漠北）instead of entering Monan（漠南）. The attitude of the Tang Dynasty to launch the northern expedition against Turks is much more positive than we had previously known. The Jiuxing tribes and the Tang Dynasty both play an important role in the process of eliminating Turks.
