A Study of Tang Caichang’s Second Trip to Japan
Abstract: The author uses existing historical materials to prove that Tang Caichang went to Japan in 1898,mainly to contact Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao to engage in the Royalist Movement. It is impossible for him to go to Japan in 1899,nor is there any possibility that he accepted Sun Zhongshan’s instructions and returned to China to revolt。This is a revolutionary historical discourse expression made by Feng Ziyou and others based on the standpoint of the revolutionary party. The newly discovered letter of Tang Caichang from the auction of the Xiling Print Society, written between the 1898 coup d’état and the 1900 Self-Strengthening Army, provides new materials for our understanding of Tang Caichang’s actions.
