Abstract: This paper rediscover the 13 kinds of soundscape and their corresponding spaces of Dongjing City, the capital of Northern Song Dynasty, and reveal their causes and historical-cultural significance. Focusing on the key issues of soundscape, the author analyzes the sound space, identity, discourse and literary achievements in writings of Dongjing in Song Dynasty literature, and argue that the so-called “Bianjing Spectacle” in Southern Song Dynasty can be used as a brief summary of the soundscape characteristics of Dongjing. I also explain the special silence, crying and absent voice of production from the perspective of aesthetics. We can discover the great changes between the Tang and the Song Dynasties at the sound level, understand the shaping of Dongjing in Song Dynasty literature and rethinking the relationship between literature and geography.
