Global Translations for Genre Fictions —— Taking Crime Fictions, Web Fictions, and Science Fictions as Examples
Abstract: Nowadays, the global top bestselling books are mostly a hybrid of genre books, and fast circulation of translations is the key factor for genre fictions to be able to achieve high volume of sales worldwide.Particularly, the new forces for Northern European crime fictions and Italian crime fictions have become popular worldwide, which represents the peripheral and semi-peripheral language genre fictions are emerging globally. The critical reason for the genre of the crime fictions currently being successful is the interaction of translations to resist but also comply with the global market system. The nonprofessional translations for web fictions by their fans is not only the new strategy for nonprofessional translators to acquire internationally popular texts in the local environment, but also the real action for them to reshape and redirect global cultural flows and challenge and revolt against the traditional business logic. The circumstances of the translations of global science fictions have proven that science community in the peripheral and semi-peripheral field has made significant contributions to the global science area and the ever-evolving global science choice of tradition. The real creative moment for science fictions in the global history was always when they were at the periphery and semi-periphery and developed into semi-periphery or a core. The new interpretation of translatability issues in world crime fictions through the concept of “glocalization”,the challenge of nonprofessional translation in web fictions to translator identity and translation methods, and the rebellion of global science fictions against translation theory effectively demonstrate a new trend in world literary translation.
