Reform and Transformation in Finance and Economics Disciplines in Big Wave of Artificial Intelligence
Abstract: The fourth industrial revolution, characterized by Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and targeting the advanced development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) as its long-term objective, will bring about a series of significant theoretical and practical challenges, along with notable effects on society, the economy, politics, national governance, and both the natural and social sciences. Both GenAI and AGI are currently in their expansion phases, with emerging industries rapidly appearing while traditional sectors gradually fade, thus generating an immense demand for AI talent. The AI generated from big data,GenAI,and AGI,which mimic the broad capabilities of human intelligence, are deeply intertwined with the financial and economic sciences. This paper methodically discusses the need for urgent reform and transformation in the academic disciplines of finance and economics within universities in the AI era, against the backdrop of analyzing the scholarly,real-world,and disciplinary impacts of GenAI and AGI on these fields. It outlines potential directions for the transformation of these disciplines: promoting high-quality development and digital transformation in higher education represents not only a historical opportunity afforded by this era but also a necessity for building a robust educational nation. The transformation of finance and economic disciplines demands ongoing exploration and practice, merging strategic design with practical implementation, and advocating for a deep integration of Generative and General AI with finance and economic studies to create educational models and talent training systems that align with socio-economic development needs.
