Studies on China and the 21st Century International Immigration
-
Abstract
In the past four decades, China’s economic rise had a transformative impact on international migration and emigration. The international migration to China reveals a clear spatial characteristic, which is accompanied by a growing body of literature on international migration in China. Through an important review of main trends and research frontiers, this article discusses hot topic issues, such as U.S-Mexico border crisis, the challenge of the US ethnic population change to the US society, and international migrants’ diffusion to new immigrant destination areas, etc. The development of China’s international migration in the context of “Belt and Road Initiative” has a bright future. “The Belt and Road Initiative” provides Chinese scholars in international migration with a rare opportunity. Within the next ten to twenty years, Chinese scholars in international migration have the potential to make great contributions to the collection of data, analytical methodology, theoretical innovation and policy-making.
