-
Abstract
Reclamation was an important measure for the central government to govern and develop the frontiers in the past dynasties. After the establishment of the Nanjing National Government, it also put " the development of border areas and immigrants as an important guideline for the development of the national economy”. Under the common aspiration of the Chinese to defend and develop the frontier, the Reclamation has become the top priority of the development of Yunnan’s frontiers, and it has received great attention from the central to the local. The border management institutions were then set up, with various frontier development policies introduced and the border research conducted. The development plan was also put into practice, and the establishment of the Bureau of Reclamation and the Reclamation Company were further developed. The historical process of the development of Yunnan’s borderland during the Republic of China not only reflected the interaction between the state, the local and the individual, but also reflected their cognition and practice to defend and develop frontier in the historical process of the construction of a unified multi-ethnic country under the border crisis.
