The Social Function of Public Interpretation and Its Intersubjective Communication Mode with Critical Dimension
-
Abstract
Public interpretation is a way of discourse communication between members of the social community and has social functions. Hermeneutics originated from the interpretation of cultural classics, which has been widely practiced in Chinese traditional culture. Interpretation of cultural classics and mainstream social values can play a role in rallying social consensus and maintaining social solidarity. Public interpretation is associated with life forms, norms and even political power. There is a dialectical relationship between community and individual, objective and subjective, inheritance and innovation. In his works such as German Ideology and Critique of Hegel’s Legal Philosophy, Marx clarified that the ideology combined with the ruling power of the oppressive class has falsehood and deception. This means that public interpretation can play a positive and negative role. Only by grasping its dialectical relationship can we give full play to the positive significance of public interpretation.
