Coincidence and Disruption between Family/Nation and Individual Mind Narratives
-
Abstract
Since its publication there has been a number of debates on Lu Ling’s novel, Tycoon’s Children. A T-shaped structure is embedded in the novel. It can be found that the first half coincides with traditional family/nation narratives, and the second half concentrates on individual mind narrative, giving rise to some disruption of narrative structure which is uniform on the surface. This disruption highlights certain conflicts of different cultural choices and value orientations.
